MOORE CONGRATULATES STAFF AND PUPILS AT NEW LAUDER PRIMARY12.00.00am GMT Tue 1st Dec 2009 Borders MP Michael Moore has congratulated teachers and pupils in Lauder after the official opening ceremony of their new primary school this morning. Work at Lauder began in August 2008, with a total budget of £6.6 million. The new school has been built to accommodate 275 pupils across 10 classrooms and will also provide nursery facilities for younger children. Lauder primary is part of the Borders Primary School Project - a Scottish Borders Council initiative which set aside more than £38 million to build five new Primary Schools (Denholm, Kingsland, Lauder, Caddonfoot and West Linton) and support major refurbishment work at the old Kingsland Primary School in Peebles. Commenting, Mr Moore said: 'With yesterday's announcement that Duns had been successful in securing funding for the development of a new primary school and the opening ceremony at Lauder earlier this morning, it has turned out to be a very good week for education in the Borders! 'As portfolio holders for education, I know that my Liberal Democrat colleagues at the SBC have been working hard to improve school facilities around our region. The Borders Primary School Project will help teachers to provide thousands of children with the educational and pastoral support they need to make a great start in life. 'I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to all the pupils and staff at Lauder primary and look forward to taking a closer look at their new home in the near future.'
