Every single person in Scotland should be able to realise their potential no matter who they are or where they’re from. I was lucky – I had a wonderful time both at Knowepark Primary and Selkirk High School, then at Aberdeen University. My teachers instilled in me a belief that I could achieve whatever I wanted to.
I know not everyone is as fortunate.
Scotland’s education system used to be one of the best in the world, and I want to see it climb back up those rankings so we can encourage, develop talents and raise the aspirations of not just young people, but of anyone who seeks to forge a new productive path in their life.
Society can only be successful if everyone has the power to play their part and contribute.
It is our responsibility to make sure that happens.
